Medellin is the city where our electives take place and will be the base for our students undertaking their medical or nursing elective. This city is the second largest city in Colombia and by far the safest city in the whole country. Its perfect climate is like a dream come true for anyone who visits this lovely city, nightlife is unique, and you can visit the Colombian Caribbean from here amongst other interesting places in Colombia. We have no doubt you will have an unforgettable experience here in Colombia.

We have partnered with major hospitals and smaller clinics here, public and private, and we are certain that you will get the most of your medical or nursing elective with us.

Medical Elective

You will have a great time if you choose Colombia for your medical elective. You will be staying in Medellin, a lively town where you are sure to enjoy your time at work and relaxing. In comparison to other countries in South America, Colombia has a rather high quality of healthcare, but this doesn’t mean it doesn’t face any problems. There is often too many patients to attend and lack of education means there aren’t sufficient staff. All this together means what you do is of great help to the people in the area.

You will get the chance to work in both public and private healthcare, giving you as many different experiences as possible. You will observe the professionals from the area while also getting to put into practice what you already know.

Colombia and life here will be different to what you know back home, but we at Mundo Verde and the friendly locals do all we can to make you feel safe and at home throughout the entirety of your stay.

Accommodation and Team

As in the other destinations we run our electives, we have carefully chosen our accommodation in Medellin our apartments are located at safe residential areas of the city, shops, pharmacies, hospitals, restaurants can be easily found from the apartments.

The apartments are spacious and well lit, equipped with everything you need to make your stay a pleasant experience and at the same time make you feel at home. A member of Mundo Verde will be available at all times should you need any assistance.

Spanish lessons

20 hours of Spanish classes are included when you book your medical elective from four weeks and up. These lessons have been prepared based on the hospital work and on the cultural experience you will face in Medellin. These Spanish lessons will certainly be useful when you start exploring the city and start speaking to the locals, who are known for having a slow-paced accent, which is great for learning the language.

Salsa lessons in Medellin

Salsa culture is well known in Medellin and over Columbia and we want you to take full advantage, which is why we have included a salsa class in the price for you to get to know the basics before heading out and trying it in the cities nightlife or at an event or party. There are salsa bars over the city where you can go just to listen or try out your new moves. The locals love dancing the night away so fully immerse yourself and pupt on your dancing shoes!

Cooking class in Medellin

Medellin is an excellent place to try all that Columbia has to offer. They have a large variety of restaurants and street food vendors who serve up some really succulent plates. It is bustling with culture, and cuisine is the heart of any culture. Possibly the best food in the country is served here so make sure to make the most of it and try as much of a variety as possible.

As part of your elective we have decided to include a cooking class for you to learn the secrets and techniques of this part of the culture. We want you to enjoy as much cultural immersion as possible so you won’t be paying any extra for this after arrival. You will be included in shopping for the ingredients at the markets before being shown how to prepare and make the dish itself. After everything you will be able to relax and enjoy what you have made, and then take the recipe home with you to make it for friends and family. A wonderful chance to get to know more about life in Columbia.

Most relevant questions

We do not have complicated application process and remember that you are not applying for a remunerated work, this means that anyone can apply as long as they fulfill the required criteria.
Mundo Verde Elective Placements DO NOT ASK for any type of fee upon registration in any of our programmes, in order to secure your placement we ask for a deposit once your placement has been confirmed at any of our partner hospitals or clinics. This deposit will be used as a prepayment for one of your trips or excursions; this will guarantee your placement. The requested deposit once your placement has been confirmed is US$50 in all of our destinations.
If by any chance, we cannot place you at the requested programme we will locate you in a different destination if desired. This situation does not really happen, however, due to force majeure causes we would relocate you or cancel your placement, if this event would happen, your deposit would be totally refunded.
You must remember that in case you cancel due to any personal reasons then the deposit of US$50 will not be refunded.
Once you fill our enrollment online form, we will be in contact with you to start arranging your placement.

You are welcome to join our electives any time since we run our electives all year round and we tailor our electives according to your needs.
