Arequipa City is widely known as the “Ciudad Blanca” (White City) and is known for its charming colonial homes, churches and monasteries, which are made of white ashlar, a material that is exclusive to that area. The historical centre of the city of Arequipa was named as a Cultural World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is surrounded by a delightful countryside. Amongst other natural sites nearby are the Colca Valley and the Colca Canyon. Arequipa is the perfect place for those interested in colonial architecture, wonderful natural allure, biodiversity, and outdoor adventure.

Midwifery Elective

On our midwifery elective in Arequipa you will work alongside many professionals to gather knowledge and then put new skills into practice. You will see unique cases that you are unlikely to see in your usual environment like malaria and tuberculosis, or even HIV, during pregnancy. The Mundo Verde midwifery elective is an excellent opportunity to expand your horizons and to learn and practice every day towards your future career. There is also time to spare when you can visit some famous landmarks like Misti volcano or the wonderful Cathedral in the main plaza. There are also beaches just a couple of hours away and tasty seafood to try.

Spanish lessons in Arequipa

As part of the medical elective in Arequipa, Mundo Verde has prepared the Spanish classes for all the students who visit to undertake their medical elective at this impressive city. 20 hours of Spanish classes are included in the overall price of the Medical Elective in Arequipa.

The classes have been structured in two important parts, the first part focuses on technical Spanish, related to medicine, taking patients’ medical histories and learning healthcare related vocabulary. The second part focuses on the day to day language. The two weeks of Spanish lessons will not be enough for the fluency of the language but we are sure that it will be two unforgettable weeks, of new experiences and above all, of learning more about a new culture for you.

Cooking classes in Arequipa

Las picanterías, traditional restaurants in Arequipa are by far the most visited place in a visit to this beautiful city. Cuy chactado or chupe de camarones are some of the most renowned plates and you will have the chance to learn how to make it step by step with our cooking classes included in your healthcare elective price.

We do not have complicated application process and remember that you are not applying for a remunerated work, this means that anyone can apply as long as they fulfill the required criteria.
Mundo Verde Elective Placements DO NOT ASK for any type of fee upon registration in any of our programmes, in order to secure your placement we ask for a deposit once your placement has been confirmed at any of our partner hospitals or clinics. This deposit will be used as a prepayment for one of your trips or excursions; this will guarantee your placement. The requested deposit once your placement has been confirmed is US$50 in all of our destinations.
If by any chance, we cannot place you at the requested programme we will locate you in a different destination if desired. This situation does not really happen, however, due to force majeure causes we would relocate you or cancel your placement, if this event would happen, your deposit would be totally refunded.
You must remember that in case you cancel due to any personal reasons then the deposit of US$50 will not be refunded.
Once you fill our enrollment online form, we will be in contact with you to start arranging your placement.

You are welcome to join our electives any time since we run our electives all year round and we tailor our electives according to your needs.
